Adam Jones teaches beginner to advanced intermediate music classes for students of all ages. With 6 years of teaching experience, he has successfully guided students ranging from 5 to 75 years old, accommodating those with a genuine interest in music.

Adam offers both traditional grading and contemporary learning approaches for students aiming to progress in their abilities. He also teaches music theory to deepen students' understanding of the subject. Adam encourages his students to explore a range of genres, from neo-soul to rock, classical, and blues.

Since picking up his first pair of sticks at age 10, Adam has been passionate about playing drums. He thoroughly enjoys sharing his expertise gathered from performing with wedding, function, tribute, rock, and metal bands, as well as with the Trafford and Halle Youth Orchestras, and in Latin and African percussion ensembles. He has also participated in various theatre performances.

As a regular dep drummer, Adam has played with numerous tribute and indie rock bands for the past 10 years. Recent standout gigs include learning entire festival sets for tribute acts Pulp'd and Blur2 in just 2 days, shadowing Jimmy Carr for an "8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" filming skit, and performing originals at the Cavern Club in Liverpool. He balances gigging with teaching drums at Rock Out! in Manchester.

HOURLY RATE: £15 + 50% studio fee (if applicable)

ABOUT THE LESSON

During lessons, Adam prioritises your short-term and long-term drumming goals. This can include improving technical skills such as advanced rudiments, preparing for upcoming drum grades, or learning songs for performances or gigs.

For complete beginners or those unsure of their direction, he will teach all the basics, from drum grooves and stick patterns to playing along with songs!

Being fluent in all genres, Adam can cover both past and contemporary styles to prepare you for any gig. He aims to enhance your drumming skill set, introducing Latin drum exercises to improve coordination, jazz and swing for double strokes and ghost notes, rock and metal for stamina, and hip-hop and R&B for groove.

Lessons are tailored to balance technical exercises with learning new genres and preparing for upcoming gigs or exams. Having played through all the Rock School and Trinity Guildhall grades, Adam understands the pressures of drumming exams. He will guide you through songs at your appropriate skill level, including the necessary rudiments and technical exercises. He also provides tips on playing along to click tracks and managing exam-day nerves.

With 18 years of performance experience, Adam shares unique insights, including how to efficiently set up gear for gigs, audience engagement strategies, and the importance of writing your own drum parts. He believes that there’s nothing more satisfying than creating grooves that get audiences dancing.
